Start with the kings
Two kings begin on the board. All other pieces begin off-board.
Two kings. One universe. Endless destinies.
A bold new chess experience where two kings begin on the board. Every other piece waits off-board until you bring it in when strategy demands, then fight for checkmate across an endless universe of possibilities.

First observation
Exoplanet Chess transforms the opening without changing the power of the pieces. Two kings begin on the board while every other piece waits off-board for the right moment to enter the battle.
Simple rules
It plays like chess after the pieces arrive. The main difference: you choose when and where to bring every other piece into play.
Two kings begin on the board. All other pieces begin off-board.
Every other piece waits off-board until you choose the moment it is needed.
Either place one reserve piece on the board or move one piece already there.
Place any reserve piece on an empty square in your half of the board.
Once a piece is on the board, it moves, attacks, and captures just like normal chess.
You cannot castle, so protect your king with smart piece placement.
When a piece is captured, it leaves the game for good.
Flip a coin to pick the starting player.
There is no set opening. You choose what piece to place, where to place it, and when.
Put bishops and knights on any allowed empty square in your half of the board.
Every other piece stays off-board until the moment you decide it is needed.
Checkmate the other king to win, just like in regular chess.
Mission objective
The goal is still checkmate. Two kings begin on the board, while every other piece can enter from off-board whenever it is needed.
Explore the universe
Exoplanet Chess brings the wonder of distant worlds to the chessboard. Each game becomes a fresh expedition in planning, timing, attack, and defense.

This sample shows how two players can build a position from their own ideas. Instead of memorizing a familiar opening, each player decides when a new piece is needed and where it can make the greatest impact.
My view: this is where Exoplanet Chess becomes most exciting. Every arrival changes the position, so players are encouraged to think ahead, plan their own way, avoid repetitive moves, and create a winning strategy.
